W South Beach
★—A work of art itself, this property features a Bali–meets–Miami Beach sensibility, with breathtaking landscape design by conceptual design garden artist Paula Hayes, and a dark, clubby lobby decked out in artwork by Basquiat, Warhol and more modern masters. After a $30 million post-pandemic reno gave the place a refreshed look, bright guest rooms and suites were decked out in beach house chic (natural oak, soft corals and teal and white lacquered walls decorated in surfer scapes). Rooms are the largest in South Beach, and have expansive glass balconies with unobstructed views of the beach and ocean, plus the W signature bed with plush pillow-top mattress and feather bed overlay, goose-down duvet and pillows, and 350-thread-count cotton-blend sheets. Huge marble bathrooms have rain head showers; some have soaking tubs. Of the suites, a number are actual apartments with full kitchens. And then there are the amenities, including Florida’s only Mr Chow restaurant, three “destination” bars, a secret garden gathering spot for cocktails, and an Away Spa. Although located directly on the ocean, the pool in its rich wood teak glory is equally picturesque and quite the see-and-be-seen spot. Perhaps the most unique amenities are Swish and Swing, the full-size rooftop tennis and basketball courts with city views. A kid-friendly play area at the beach, plus a beachside food truck, make for a fam friendly day on the sand if the pool area—featuring two pools, one heated—is a little too hot (read: racy) for youngsters. An adults-only poolside area called Mini WET offers seven loungers and more privacy. Pets are allowed for a $250 nonrefundable fee.
