Michelin man Michael Beltran of Ariete fame decided to experiment a little with the greasy spoon concept, but when a chef as talented as Beltran plays mad scientist, his creation is genius, and never greasy. This retro-modern riff on a Cuban American diner featuring booths, counter seating, and a lovely outdoor patio, is delicious, serving all-day breakfast—the breakfast sandwich of sunny side up egg, Taylor ham, American cheese, mayo, papitas (potatoes), on Cuban bread is something you will want to eat at any meal—lunch, and dinner. Other menu champs include malanga latkes with guava apple sauce and sour cream, and the frita patty melt with Swiss, caramelized onions and 1000 Island dressing. For huge eaters: the Abuelas Plate, inspired by Beltran’s grandparents, and featuring suckling pig, crispy pork and chicken with white rice, black beans and banana.
