Queen Miami Beach
Some $40 million dollars were poured into this jaw droppingly stunning Art Deco landmark (the Henry Hohauser-designed Paris Theater) to turn it into this temple of fine Japanese dining. I know you can’t eat the decor but it certainly is delicious: an old Hollywood meets modern day South Beach palace of terrazzo floors, Italian mosaics, velvet banquettes, marble countertops, and Lobmeyr chandeliers. The food is as spectacular, often crafted from rare ingredients, like wagyu from Hasewaga farm, a family-owned spot north of Tokyo, from which only 400 of its cattle goes to market every year. The beef might be seared in a Josper charcoal oven or over a robata grill, and preceded by exquisite sushi, or a seafood tower, or sea bass tempura. Diners (who include many a celebrity) have the choice between ordering a la carte, or taking part in an omakase (tasting menu) meal, which, in some cases, gets you into a glam upstairs room. A heady experience.
