Tam Tam

Inspired by “quán nhậu”—a Vietnamese term for “drinking places”—Tam Tam is owned by a husband and husband team, one of whom spent two years teaching in Vietnam, the other a native of Saigon. They were underwhelmed by Miami’s Vietnamese options so created this friendly place, which feels like you’re eating in their private home, a cozily and whimsically decorated place with wood paneled walls, hand painted tables, and floral upholstery. Oh, it also has karaoke bathrooms. Yes, really. There are mics in the bathrooms for those who feel like belting out a Mariah Carey tune while on the toilet. But back to the food: it’s some good “drinking food” as owner Tam Pham says. Think: sticky tamarind-glazed pork ribs with crushed peanuts, scallion and pickled cucumber; Nhau bone marrow with grilled sourdough, garlic herb salad and a Birdseye chili-infused fish sauce; and goat curry with egg noodle, lemongrass, coconut and herbs. To encourage drinking, the wine (and beer only) list is made of all natural, zero intervention wines meaning no chemical agents, enhancers, filtration, Sulphur or commercially made yeast. However, you say ‘cheers’ in Vietnamese, we’re saying it about this place. Loudly.
