Hosteria Giusti
A gastronomic treasure, Adriano Morandi's exclusive restaurant has just four tables, and is open only at noon for lunch, while evenings are reserved for groups of between 16 and 24. The interior is designed to resemble a family home, all exposed beams and terra-cotta floors. Morandi's menu is constantly changing, but might include zucchini blossoms stuffed with risotto, thick cut pasta with cured pig's cheek, and homemade sausage (zampone) served with zabaglione (light custard made with Lambrusco).
The entrance is hidden within the main anchor of the Giusti empire, the equally enticing Salumeria Giusti (Tues-Sat 9:30am-1pm and 5:15-7:30pm), where you can stock up on all manner of Modena specialties. Documents dated 1598 suggest this is Europe's oldest delicatessen. If the restaurant is not open, grab a coffee or aperitivo in the refined Caffetteria Drogheria Giusti next door. The Hosteria's back entrance deposits you on narrow Vicolo Squallore, where you'll find the well-stocked Giusti Bottiglieria (wine cellar).
