Hotel Belmar
One of the oldest hotels in the area, this family-run lodge continues to improve and expand, with younger generations infusing much life into the property. Of course, the place has good bones, starting with the flower-filled grounds, which are set on a hillside and boast expansive views of the cloud forest canopy. Despite the building’s age, the rooms and their wood-paneled walls, floors, and ceilings have been immaculately maintained—and all have a balcony. Two additional buildings just steps from the main entrance, offer better views and light, as well as more modern in-room amenities while still retaining the Tyrolian chalet feel. There is a small network of trails directly on the property, as well as their own 17-acre private reserve, Safia, a few minutes away where they offer tours. Last, but certainly not least, their culinary program is in the top 3 for the region. Dining options include the on-site Celajes, which serves elevated Costa Rican fare; a brewery on the lower end of the property, for well-prepared comfort food; and a juice bar. All utilize produce from their carbon-neutral farm, Finca Madre Tierra, which offers tours.
