Outside the Southwest (Nisqually) Entrance -- Budget travelers might want to look into the hostel-style accommodations at Whittaker's Bunkhouse, 30205 Wash. 706 E., Ashford, WA 98304 (www.whittakersbunkhouse.com; tel. 360/569-2439), with bunks for $35 and private rooms for $85 to $115 double, as well as an espresso bar. The rates are lower in winter, but bunks are not available.
