It’s hard to classify just what Joe’s Pub is, beyond a very handsome space, in a landmark building, that hosts performances, and serves strong cocktails and pub food. Its show roster is so all over the map that one can’t really say “this is a world music club” or “this is a cabaret,” or “this is a rock and roll hall”. It’s been all those things and more over the years, hosting spoken-word artists, rising singer/songwriters, jazz bands, pop stars, you name it. All I can tell you is the quality of the talent, whatever it may be, is always high, and the room is wonderfully festive. Too vague? Here’s a list of past performers to give you a taste of what you might be in for: Leonard Cohen, Julie Klausner, fashion designer Isaac Mizrahi, monologist Mike Daisy, Alicia Keys, Patti Lupone, and Wynton Marsalis. Confusing, right? But in a good way.
