The blockbuster modern dance shows tend to play the Joyce, and it’s not hard to see why: It’s simply the best space in the city to see dance—there’s not a bad seat in the house. In this renovated, Art Deco–era movie theater, the audience sits slightly above the dancers, meaning that you won’t be seeing just the feet or just the bodies—you’ll get the whole picture. In past years, this is where Pilobolus has played, as well as the Twyla Tharp Company, Wendy Whelan, and Savion Glover.
