You become 10 times cooler just by walking into this sexy, very European bar that seems entirely candle-lit (though it’s not) and has an extraordinary selection of wines and sherries by the glass, from small producers across Europe and the U.S. The seemingly all-French waitstaff will help you select the right vino, and since this is a place you’ll want to linger, you may also go for one of the tapas, or cheese plates. As for the clientele: They’re an unusually stylish group of folks of all ages, which is unusual for a NYC bar. I think the European jazz soundtrack, kept at a conversation-enhancing level, may be why Ten Bells is popular across generations.
