In addition to its beach and marine-centric attractions, Newport has some good restaurants. In fact, on a coast not known for its great restaurants, Newport shines like a lighthouse beacon. I hope you like seafood because, as you might expect, there’s a lot of it on the menus here.
For an espresso, a slice of pizza, or a good sandwich, drop by Panini Bakery, 232 NW Coast St. (tel. 541/265-5033), in Nye Beach. For pastries and artisan breads, search out La Maison Bakery & Cafe, 315 SW Ninth St. (tel. 541/265-8812; www.lamaisoncafe.com), which is just off U.S. 101. On a hot summer day, nothing tastes better than a pint of microbrew ale at Rogue Ales Public House, 748 SW Bay Blvd. (tel. 541/265-3188; www.rogue.com). There's a second pub over near the Oregon Coast Aquarium at 2320 OSU Dr. (tel. 541/867-3664). For coffee, grab a table on the deck at The Coffee House, 156 SW Bay Blvd. (tel. 541/265-6263), and you'll have a front-row seat for watching all the action on the bayfront.
