There are a number of restaurants near the minbak (some of them are a combination of both), about a 40-minute walk from Woljeongsa. One of the better restaurants between the entrance to the park and Jinbu is Odaesan Gagneun Gil, 303-7 Ganpyeong-li, Jinbu-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon-do (tel. 033/333-9982), whose name means "On the Road to Odaesan." The chefs here serve traditional Korean fare in a nice setting. The outside tables are in a flower garden, while the inside is decorated with paintings and Korean kites. You can get a bowl of kalguksu (handmade knife noodles) or sujebi (dough flake soup) for W6,000.
At the entrance to Woljeongsa is a cozy restaurant, Odaesan Sanchae, that specializes in wild vegetables grown in the mountains. Like all temple cuisine, the fare is strictly vegetarian and very affordable. Set meals go for W12,000 to W24,000.
A nice place at the entrance to the Yongyeong Ski Resort is Gohyang Iyagi, 348 Hoenggye 9-li, Doam-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon-do (tel. 033/335-5430), whose name roughly translates to "hometown story." At this family-owned restaurant inside a lodgelike wooden building, the inside is decorated with photos of Seoraksan taken by the owner. One of the specialty dishes is a dolsot bap (stone-pot rice bowl) made with special fragrant herbs that grow only in Gangwon-do. The restaurant next door, Hoenggye, also specializes in the dish, as well as the osam bulgogi, a special marinated sliced beef dish.
Sigol Bapsang, 131-4 Nodong-li, Yongpyeong-myeon, Pyeongchang-gun, Gangwon-do (tel. 033/333-7724), which translates to something like "country dinner table," is another good choice. The sigol bapsang jeongshik (country-style traditional set meal) is W30,000, but you can get the local gondre bap (a meal with steamed rice made with a local thistle and special seasoning) for just W7,000. Unfortunately, there are no bus stops near here, but it's about 10 minutes by taxi (costing about W7,000) to the restaurant from the Jinbu Bus Terminal.
