Olite Travel Guide

44km (27 miles) S of Pamplona, 369km (229 miles) N of Madrid

Dominated by its turreted castle, historic Olite is an important wine town and a center for the region’s agriculture, which thrives on a climate characteristic of the distant Mediterranean: short, mild winters and long, hot summers. The ancient buildings here are well-kept, flanking narrow streets that open onto smart squares full of tiny shops worth poking your nose into. Local wine merchants hold a festival each year in mid-September, preceded by the town’s August Medieval Fair.
