Things To Do in Oplontis

As of the 1st century B.C., Oplontis was an elegant residential suburb of nearby Pompeii. Indeed, the very name probably derives from the Latin opulentia meaning opulence, and the über rich had their countryside villas here. Although it was first discovered in the 18th century, the site was not excavated until the 1960s. Only the ruin of one extraordinary villa is currently open to the public, yet it is well worth a visit.
