Meliã Hotel de la Reconquista

It’s hard to imagine that this elegant 18th-century building started life as an orphanage and children’s hospital. It was renovated and opened as a hotel in 1974 and quickly became a social center for the city. You might recognize the beautiful arcaded lobby from Woody Allen’s film Vicky Cristina Barcelona. Spacious guest rooms all face outward and feature traditional furnishings in soothing neutral tones. In nice weather, guests enjoy two outdoor patios; in cooler weather, they relax in the huge lobby, with comfortable tables and chairs resting on a beautifully woven 250-sq-m (2,690-sq.-ft.) carpet. You get a lot of history and style for the relatively reasonable price.
