Planning a trip to Oviedo
Oviedo doesn’t have an airport, but travelers can fly into Santiago del Monte, Ranón, 52km (32 miles) away, which also serves Gijón. Service via a half–dozen airlines connects to most of Spain.
RENFE (tel. 90-232-03-20) offers six trains per day from Madrid; the one-way trip takes 3 1/4‒3 1/2 hours and costs 33€‒89€. ALSA (tel. 90-242-22-42) operates buses from Madrid; the trip one-way takes 5 1/2‒7 hours and costs 36€‒63€.
Driving from the east or west, take N-634 across the coast of northern Spain. From the south, take N–630 or A-66 from León.
The main tourist information office is at Plaza de La Constitución, 4 (tel. 984–493–560/2). Regular hours are daily 9am‒5:30pm, but from July to September it’s open 9am‒7pm. A second office at the edge of Campo de San Francisco park (Calle Marques de Santa Cruz, s/n; tel. 985–227–586) is open Monday‒Friday 10am‒5pm, Saturdays and Sundays 10am‒2:30pm and 3:30‒5pm.
