Things To Do in Paramaribo
Paramaribo Shopping
Paramaribo's largest handicraft and souvenir centre, ReadyTex Crafts, offers woven palm-fibre baskets, ceramics and wooden carvings to take home. From there, head to the Central Market - an ideal place to watch bartering in full swing amid piles of fruit, sacks of yucca and pots of brightly coloured spices. For floral bouquets and offerings head to the Flower Market on the Kleine Waterstraat, a riot of colour and fragrance set against a picture-perfect colonial backdrop.
Paramaribo Nightlife
Paramaribo's nightlife zone – Uitgaanscentrum - literally means 'the going-out centre'; a block of hotels, bars and restaurants where the city's night owls flock. Nightlife is varied: Starzz is a popular Euro-beat club, while there's all-night salsa on the menu at the Havana Lounge. Sidewalk Cafe ‘T VAT attracts a relaxed crowd and is the place to be during festivals and carnival season.
