This vast, kitsch cavern of wax figures—movie stars, historical figures, sports heroes, rock ‘n’ rollers, notables from the political scene—is a fun place to take the kids. If you’re not up on French history or pop culture, you might not recognize some of the faces, but don’t worry, Marilyn Monroe, Brad Pitt, and Pope Francis are here, too. Stars appear in their natural habitats: chic brasseries, cocktail parties, and fashion shows. Historical tableaus feature such scenes as Joan of Arc being burned at the stake and Louis XIV holding court at Versailles. Also here: a light show in the renovated Palais des Mirages, a leftover from the Universal Exposition of 1900. Tip: If you’re travelling with 2 adults and 2 children (ages 5 to 15), save money by buying the family ticket online for 17€ per person.
