You won’t be surprised to learn that this unusual hotel was once a bank: The lobby ceiling is so high you could easily walk around on stilts. The rooms are truly spacious, and some include bathrooms that are downright huge. The other atypical feature here is the furniture—many of the rooms have gorgeous Art Nouveau fittings that would make an antiques dealer foam at the mouth. All but one have pretty tiled fireplaces, and most have retained their old ceiling moldings. An antique wrought-iron elevator runs up the center of the building. It’s no wonder that this hotel is a favorite for magazine photo shoots. Note: Some beds are not standard sizes; those lovely old bedsteads were made before king-size mattresses came into style.
