A lively downtown eatery in a restored 1913 building, Five Sisters Blues Café, named for by the owner’s mother and her sisters from Kentucky, features a Creole-accented Southern menu and live blues music at brunch. Menu highlights include gumbo, fried green tomatoes, fried okra, cornbread, secret-recipe blue crab cakes, Southern fried chicken, slow-braised oxtail, pot roast, and pulled-pork BBQ. There’s also an a la carte Sunday brunch with all sorts of egg dishes, chicken and waffles, grits, pork chops, and more. Meatloaf Mondays serves a slab with two sides and cornbread for just $5.
