Hotel Sazagua
A 15-minute taxi ride from Pereira, this artfully conceived boutique hotel is one of the region’s most characterful choices and is an excellent base for exploring the region. Set amid lush gardens that abound with butterflies, birds, and flowering orchids, it’s a haven of tranquility. Rustic-chic rooms with exposed beams are decorated with exotic hardwoods and crisp white linens; the bathrooms are perfectly functional but on the small side, and it would be a stretch to call them luxurious. It’s in the romantic restaurant (one of the best in the area) with breezy patios illuminated by candles, and in the labyrinthine lounges and corridors, filled with local art, reliefs, and ceramics, that Sazagua really shines. It’s definitely worth spending up for the Junior Suites, which have more space and look out over the lovely heated pool and gardens. Rates include breakfast and a 15-minute complimentary head massage in the spa.
