Sonesta Hotel Pereira
This monolithic hotel, which opened in 2014, won’t score any points for local character or charm (you could be anywhere), but it’s modern, pristine (there are no bugs, if that’s an issue for you), and the staff try really hard, and mostly pull it off. A 20-minute drive from Pereira, it’s a fine base for a night or two if you are travelling with kids. There’s a large heated pool, a children’s pool (complete with a slide and dump buckets), tennis courts, a putting green, and plenty of space to roam. A well-executed international menu is served by the pool (where dance music plays incongruously regardless of the clientele) or in the restaurant; a new rotating restaurant on the top floor was slated for opening at the time of writing. Contemporary rooms with large, design-conscious bathrooms are quiet, comfortable, and flooded with light thanks to floor-to-ceiling windows. An expansive buffet breakfast is included in the rate.
