This pioneering rainforest resort does an excellent job of blending tropical fantasy with hints of luxury. The complex is just off the beach in a dense patch of forest and flowering gardens. Lodging options range from glamping-style tent cabins (slat wood floors, private porches, indoor plumbing, batik window coverings) to individual bungalows and geodesic domes. All are comfortable and quite pretty. The on-site restaurant serves some of the tastiest fare on this stretch of coastline. There is no regular vehicular access to the resort, so check-in is at El Sano Banano Village hotel and restaurant in town; you and your bags are shuttled in via Jeep or dune buggy. The owners, Lenny and Patricia, have been here for decades and have done much to promote and protect the area.
