Don’t let the word “hotel” fool you. At Almonds & Corals you’ll be staying inside a 3-hectare wildlife reserve in tent-cabin hybrids on stilts. Yup, this is “glamping” (glamorous camping, or some would say glorified camping), so your digs are tents with benefits like electric lamps, four-poster beds, private baths with hot water, private Jacuzzis, fridges, safes, and fans. One drawback here, aside from the price and how worn some of the units are getting, is the fact that the units are very close to each other, and with no solid walls, there’s not a lot of privacy or sound insulation. The lodge is set in a patch of dense forest on the northern end of Playa Manzanillo. A maze of low wooden walkways connects the rooms to the main dining area and beach, although an on-site zipline canopy tour is another popular way to reach the sand.
