A native of Guyana who has also lived in Trinidad and Toronto, Stash Golas is a local legend, and his cooking and restaurant have been Puerto Viejo mainstays for years, albeit with a couple different locations and names. The current incarnation serves up his classic mix of world fusion cuisines, with fish, seafood, beef, chicken, and vegetables featured in curries or with Thai-, Jamaican- or Mexican-tinged sauces. The tandoori chicken is excellent, with a homemade spicy sauce consisting of 18 ingredients. Thanks to the painted paper lanterns and creative artwork, Stashu’s is a good place for a romantic dinner. There’s occasionally live reggae or jazz music.
