Inexpensive restaurants serving typical Ecuadorean fare are found all over town, particularly close to the train station where there are several almuerzo (lunch) eateries, as well as in the relatively tidy Mercado La Merced (La Merced Market; on Guayaquil btw. Colón and Espejo).
