Gumbalimba is a good place to come if you have just a day in Roatán and want to experience as much as you can -- which is why the place is often packed when a cruise ship is in town. It's kind of a one-stop adventure shop. There's a zip-line section, a large stretch of beach with clear kayaks, Snuba (a combination of snorkeling and scuba diving), snorkel gear, a pool, and even a small cave with cheesy replica pirates and exhibits that describe their historical relationship with the Bay Islands. The main attraction, though, is the nature trail that runs through an area of very dense jungle and is filled with rare tropical plants and flowers native to the region, as well as a hanging rope bridge over a small lake, cages of macaws and other parrots, and a small island that's home to a few monkeys. A new insectarium and a replica pirate fort you can walk through should be ready by late 2011.
