Hotel Catalonia Reina Victoria

This elegant spa hotel, built in high Victorian-style in 1906 to attract English visitors from the coast, feels like a place of retreat. It is located on the newer north side of the town, a 10-minute walk from the historic quarter. The Bohemian poet Rainer Maria Rilke stayed here (in room 208) for several months in 1912 in search of inspiration. He is honored with a small museum and a statue in the leafy gardens. Thorough renovation has given the airy guest rooms a clean, contemporary feel, and the spa amenities are state of the art. The clifftop setting offers dramatic views but bear in mind it isn’t the classic Ronda ravine scene.
