Sambo Creek Attractions

Apart from the beaches at Sambo Creek or a trip to the Cayos Cochinos, there is a burgeoning assortment of activities to partake in. Glenda's Paradise Hot Springs Resort (L150 adults; daily 10am-6pm), just past Sambo Creek on the road to Trujillo, is the most popular thermal spring facility in the La Ceiba area, though facilities are basic. The water is a constant 105°F (41°C) in the stone-lined natural pool, partly covered by a small champa to stop the sun. A more modern cold-water pool for cooling off is here, too, along with a picnic area and a small stand selling food and drinks.

Turaser (tel. 504/2429-0509), out of the Palma Real Resort, operates a canopy tour, just outside of Sambo Creek on the road to Trujillo (look for signs along the highway). The zip-lines are a 30-minute horseback ride through thick rainforest from the tour office. The 13 different cables end at a small waterfall and swimming hole fed by thermal springs. Departures are at 9am and 2pm. The tour costs L855.
