John T. Floore, the first manager of the Majestic Theatre and an unsuccessful candidate for mayor of San Antonio, opened this country store in 1942. A couple years later, he added a cafe and a half-acre dance floor, the largest in south Texas. Not much has changed since then—boots, hats, and antique farm equipment hang from the ceiling, and the walls are lined with pictures of Willie Nelson, Hank Williams, Sr., Conway Twitty, Ernest Tubb, and other country greats who’ve played here. There’s always live music on weekends, often by current country music legends. The cafe still serves homemade bread, homemade tamales, old-fashioned sausage, and cold Texas beer.
