Restaurants in San Ignacio
In addition to the places we give full reviews for, we can give a definite thumbs up to the following places. Maxim’s Chinese Restaurant, 23 Far West St. (tel. 824-2283), is a local’s favorite. You might also want to take the adventure of finding Sanny’s Grill, 23rd Street (tel. 664-9083), which is tucked away in a residential neighborhood and serves excellent seafood and grilled meats. For inexpensive eats in a large outdoor setting, you can try Hode’s Place Bar & Grill (www.hodesplaces.com; tel. 804-2522), located out on the northern end of town. They are also one of the only places in town that do delivery. The Ice Cream Shoppe at 24 West St. (tel. 615-6160) serves up excellent scoops, with Belize-specific flavors, like soursop, a fruit found only in the tropics of Latin America. They serve standard flavors too, plus milkshakes that are expensive but totally worth it.

Erva's
There are scores of places in San Ignacio serving local cuisine, but this place is a local favorite. Erva is an excellent cook and congenial hostess. In addition to traditional Belizean and Mexican standards, you can get pizza and some seafood dishes here. Still, it's the stew…$Around Town - Belizean/Mexican
Eva's Restaurant & Bar
Eva’s is ideally located for people-watching, with tables right on the edge of the pedestrian walkway. On off are hearty and well-prepared Belizean and Mexican standards. The escabeche, a traditional soup or stew, is topnotch, as are the stew beans and rice. The service is a little…$Around Town - International
Guava Limb Café
In a verdant garden, lit by candles, diners relax, sometimes canoodle (it is a romantic setting) and dine on some of the best food in Belize. Don’t be put off by the fact that the menu runs the gamut from Indonesian dishes to Mediterranean classics like falafel and hummus, in…$$Around Town - Indian/Global
Ko-Ox Han-Nah
This place is also known simply as Hannah’s, though we like the Mayan name which translates roughly “let’s go eat.” Don’t be put off by the humble decor, with simple furniture and half walls with steel grating substituting for windows. The menu is massive, with a host of curries,…$Around Town - Belizean Fusion
La Ceiba
This resort restaurant should not be missed if you’re staying in the region. The kitchen combines contemporary techniques with local ingredients, many harvested from the organic gardens on-site. Especially remarkable are the creative interpretations of Belizean classics, which often…$$$At Ka'ana Resort - Belizean
Pop’s Restaurant
Everyone loves Pop’s—it’s the most popular breakfast spot in the area. The fry jacks are made perfectly, the breakfast burrito is the beginning to a great day, and the atmosphere fosters conversation among strangers. It’s frequented by locals, repeat travelers, and lucky guests who…$Around Town - Steakhouse/Belizean
Running W Steak House & Restaurant
Located in the San Ignacio Resort Hotel, this restaurant is affiliated with Belize’s largest beef and cattle operation, its namesake. Which means that all the beef dishes are winners, though I’m partial to the grass-fed ribeye. The restaurant also serves up seafood, chicken, and…$$$Around Town
