This fab beach hotel is a shining example of Puerto Rico's tropical modernism architecture movement. It first opened in December 1958, and underwent a sweeping rehabilitation and makeover for its 50th birthday, staying true to the original design while updating the property to current standards and tastes. The structure was built to incorporate the natural elements surrounding it into the hotel, and sea breezes and the beach light are ever present in its public areas, especially elegant and open white marble lobby, which has gurgling fountains and river ponds, and blends into the outdoor terraces, tropical gardens and leveled pool areas outside. The rooms are restrained, with updated Mid-Century Modern-style furnishings and seek to make the most of their view, especially ocean side rooms. The hotel has an enviable location in the center of Condado and adjacent to the Ventana del Mar park and a fine beach. It attracts a young urban crowd, as well as locals to its casino, bars and restaurants. This is a very lively spot.
