You'll find dozens of options here, but midrange hotels seem to be lacking the most. Lodging in San Pedro (even at the top of the range) does not come with televisions, and many rooms do not have phones. Do not underestimate the luxury of a swimming pool, especially during the summer; these places do not have air-conditioning, though their style of architecture is dark and cool to keep heat out, and there are usually ceiling fans. For camping, the only shady, central spot is Hostal Takha Takha, Caracoles 101-A (tel. 55/851038), which has a few simple rooms as well. For a group of four, try the Casa Grande, Padre Le Paige 527 (tel. 55/851032; casagrande@sanpedroatacama.com; $130-$150/£87-£100 per night).
