Planning a trip to Sanlucar de Barrameda

The simplest way to get to Sanlúcar from Jerez is to drive the 25km (15 miles) on the A-480.

A regular bus service from Jerez takes 40 minutes, costing 2€.

From the bus station on Avenida Guzmán el Bueño, it’s a short walk to the tourist office at Avenida Calzada Duquesa Isabel, s/n (tel. 95-636-61-10), open Monday to Friday 10am to 2pm and 5 to 7pm in summer.

Every August, the beaches of Sanlúcar thrum with the sound of hooves as horse-racing takes over the town. The world-famous Carreras de Sanlúcar (tel. 95-636-32-02) are held in two stages over the second and fourth weekends of the month, when hotel and restaurant prices are at a premium. If you miss it, look out for the colorful posters produced for each year’s event.
