If you can do without the amenities of a commercial campground and just want the beauty and serenity of camping in a mountain forest, this is the spot for you. Located about 8 miles from downtown Santa Fe, it feels like it’s 100 miles from the city lights and sounds. The campsites are what you would expect in a national park, and there are even 7 with electric hookups. Hyde Memorial has 4.2 miles of hiking trails, a playground, and a visitor center. In winter you can cross-country ski and snowshoe. Elevations at the park range from 8,300 feet to 9,400 feet, so expect cool to cold nighttime temperatures, even in summer. Camping reservations can be made through the state park website (see below) with a $4 per night fee (maximum $12).
