It used to be called Joe’s Diner, a name we liked better, but whatever they call it, this casual and comfortable eatery is unpretentious and easy to like. Decor is ‘50s diner, complete with red vinyl upholstery and a checkerboard linoleum floor. The menu is old-time diner as well, but what’s surprising is that the food quality is definitely a step or two above what you might expect. The owners are committed to using sustainable, local ingredients as much as possible, and claim to be the biggest restaurant buyer of farmers’ market products in Santa Fe. We believe them. Try the herb-grilled organic chicken, grass-finished New Zealand lamb, or one of the nifty burgers such as the green chile cheese buffalo burger. Beef and lamb burgers are also served. There are weekday blue plate lunch specials, including meatloaf on Wednesdays and fish and chips on Fridays, and Friday evenings feature prime rib. Joe’s also offers pizzas and good basic breakfasts. Beer and wine are available.
