Designed as a Balinese village within a large beachside compound, walkways through pretty gardens lead to motel-like rooms set back from the beach. Although functional, super-clean, and well-designed in an open-plan format, the rooms are pretty small (opt for the larger suites) and lack sea views. However, accommodation isn't the top priority here: It's all about the surfing, the communal areas, and the fabulous Beach Club set beside the surf break. Guests have all-day access to an infinity-edge pool with double-sized daybeds and the stylish bar and restaurant, with fresh produce plucked from on-site organic gardens. Non-surfers have plenty of distractions, what with poolside massages, yoga, movie screenings, fishing and island trips, scuba diving, and a transparent lagoon perfect for snorkeling at low tide. Komune Bali also offers the world's first permanent night surfing installation: You can book private night surf sessions or check out professional surfing displays. Komune is in the process of expansion, adding a new health hub with day spa, a fine-dining restaurant, and some luxury beachfront pool villas.
