Jazz Story
It's easy to miss this charming live music establishment, as its exterior is nothing more than an unattractive mishmash of sheet metal and plywood on a quiet street in the theater district of Hyehwa/Daehakro, near Marronnier Park. Once inside, however, patrons become immediately mesmerized by the bar's whimsical décor. Metal molds of scissors and knives adorn the walls. Steel wires stretch out of the overhead loft and wind upward, as if dancing along with the audience. A metal chandelier hangs from the ceiling next to a handcrafted airplane, which threatens to crash at any moment. For as industrial as all the metal and concrete are, the bar's velvet-covered chairs, shelves of vinyl records, and clusters of dripping candles create a cozy, dreamy atmosphere. Visitors can enjoy Jazz Story's house band every night of the week beginning at 8:30pm (8pm on Sundays). The varied set list consists of everything from Louis Armstrong to ABBA to John Mayer. The vocalists are especially talented, their voices almost as intoxicating as the liquor on the bar's extensive menu.
