Sheridan Attractions

Ask at the State Information Center at I-90, exit 23, for the excellent Historic Downtown Walking Tour leaflet, which has summaries on 31 notable structures and a handy foldout map. Another good guide to pick up is the Art on Display brochure, detailing temporary and permanent installations of public art around town.

Sheridan Nightlife

The doors of the legendary Mint Bar, 151 N. Main St. (tel. 307/674-9696), first swung open in 1907. The place operated as a speak-easy until Prohibition ended, then evolved into the prototypical Western bar; "Meet me at the Mint" became a catchphrase in these parts. It's still decorated just as it was in the 1940s, with all sorts of taxidermy and historical photos. There's an 8-foot Texas rattlesnake skin (said to have formerly sheathed an 80-pounder) above the bar and plenty of local color seated in front of it.
