The converted piano nobile salons of an old palace aren’t as opulent as they once were—furnishings are dated, and some better lighting would be welcome—but enough of the grandeur remains to elicit a gasp or two as you enter one of the six enormous guest rooms embellished with marble fireplaces and ceiling frescoes. Unchanged over the centuries are the stunning views from the rear rooms over the Val d’Orcia, a surprise given the city-center location. Prices are very reasonable, especially for accommodations so genuinely palatial.
