Casa del Doncel

Oddly enough, this 13th-century Gothic building with gargoyles and battlements doesn’t deal with the story of Sigüenza’s most famous son, Martín Vázquez de Arce (El Doncel), although his aristocratic family probably lived here. Instead it houses a curious collection of unconnected things. You can browse a not-very-good exhibition of work by current local artists; a fine collection of antique Spanish guitars and a mocked-up luthier’s workshop; and a small working museum of weaving with looms, patterns, and yarn. But what makes the modest entrance fee worthwhile is the wonderful restoration of its Mudéjar rooms, with Islamic inscriptions and carvings. Downstairs you’ll find the high-end restaurant Nöla.
