Parador de Sigüenza

Given the chance, who wouldn’t want to spend the night in a castle? Even by the high standards of Spain’s historic state-run hotels, Sigüenza’s parador is something special—and remarkably affordable. The public spaces are vast and stately, from the cobbled courtyard with box-hedge gardens to the stone-pillared lounge. The simply but comfortably furnished guest rooms are spacious too, with tiled floors and modern (rather than medieval) bathrooms. Some have four-poster beds and wooden balconies. The magnificent, stone-arched dining room, with views of the surrounding pine forest, is better for breakfast than dinner, which is traditional and rather heavy. There are better dining options in this foodie town.
