Varmahlíð

The N1 gas station on the Ring Road, open daily to 9pm, is a step up from the usual pit-stop cafeteria, with lamb chops and fish dishes as well as burgers and hot dogs.

Saudðárkrókur

Fosshótel Áning, listed above, also has a good restaurant open June through August from 6 to 9pm. The bakery, Sauðárkróksbakari, Aðalgata 5 (tel. 455-5000; Jun-Aug 7am-6pm, Sept-May 8am-4pm), is perfect for breakfast, a soup and sandwich lunch, or a pastry: try the chocolate cake with coconut sprinkles.

Within the village, your choices are Solvík (tel. 453-7930; May 20-Aug daily 10am-10pm) a pleasant, summer-only restaurant-cafe next to the Emigration Center museum, and Sigtún, Suðurbraut 6 (tel. 453-7393; May 20-Aug daily 6-11pm; Sept-May 19 daily 6-9pm), a restaurant-bar with a basic array of burgers, fish, and lamb.

Siglufjörður

The bakery Aðalbakari, Aðalgata 36 (tel. 467-1720; MC, V; daily 7am-5pm), serves breakfast and lunch, with sandwiches, pastries, and cakes. Pizza 67, Aðalgata 32 (tel. 467-2323; AE, DC, MC, V; daily 5-9pm) is a fun Reykjavík-based chain that also serves salads, burgers, fish, and lasagna. The movie-themed Bíó Café, Aðalgata 30 (tel. 467-1111; MC, V. June-Aug daily 11am-9pm; Sept-May noon-2pm and 5-9pm), has well-priced pizza, burgers, fish, and lamb, and is also the best local bar.
