Hotels in Sopron

All three hotels listed are located in the city center and rates include taxes and breakfast, but not the local tax of 1 1/2€ per person/per night. With the city being small, it is easy to walk to all of the sights. Many are located on Fo tér. Buses will only be needed if you travel to the thermals or the forest outside of Sopron.

The hotel was built in a classic style at the end of the 19th century and sports 62 rooms. Owned by a dentist, there is a dental clinic on the second floor with a full range of dental services available. The hotel accommodates both smokers and nonsmokers on separate floors with comfort and classic rooms, the latter are furnished with antiques. For families, there are apartments with four beds. All rooms are of a size inviting a relaxed stay. Classic rooms are 80€-100€, comfort 110€-140€, apartments 120€-155€.

Set on a cozy cobblestone street is Hotel Wollner -- Templom u. 20. (tel. 99/524-400; fax 99/524-401, www.wollner.hu). Formerly a baroque palace dating 300 years, the 18 rooms are spacious with sleigh beds and mattresses to hug your body making for a delicious night's sleep. An inner courtyard with tables and chairs is where smokers have to congregate as all rooms are nonsmoking. At the back of the hotel, one floor up from the entrance is a lush green relaxation garden with chairs and tables. Double rooms are 80€-90€, triples are 100€-110€. The hotel has its own restaurant and a small bar.

Palatinus Szálló -- Új u. 23. (tel. 99/523-816; fax 99/523-817, www. palatinussopron.hu) sits on a triangle just off an inner courtyard walkway close to the Fire Tower. It offers 30 plain, simple, but extremely clean smallish comfortable rooms. Standard doubles are old fashioned, not having been remodeled. The superior doubles are more fresh and attractive. Rooms run from 30€-72€ for a double to an apartment for four people. All rooms are nonsmoking. Parking is available for eight cars at 4 1/2€ per day.
