One of the island's choicest boutique resorts was for many years an assemblage of villas that grew higgledy-piggledy up the lush hillside overlooking Flamands Beach. In 2011, the villas were sold and stylishly remodeled as the Taiwana. Each of the 22 spacious luxury suites is uniquely laid out and outfitted—most in modern monochrome but all with unfettered views of Flamands beach and the cerulean sea. Four have their own private pools, and two open directly onto Flamands beach (if you have kids in tow, ask about the suite with the red tepee). Each suite comes with a separate living room and adobe tile floors. The hotel's main restaurant, PaCri, serves high-end Italian food at high-end prices (even for St. Barts).
