On an island of world-class resorts, Guanahani manages to maintain ridiculously high standards while setting a breezily unpretentious tone—they make you feel warmly welcome here. Set on an 18-acre peninsula between the Atlantic and Grand Cul-de-Sac lagoon and with the serene waters of Marigot Bay on its western flank, this low-rise resort spills down a flowered hillside in higgilty-piggilty fashion. The range of accommodations, in a series of pastel-hued gingerbread cottages, is all over the map, but each room and suite is stylish and immaculate, with colorful Creole interiors that never stoop to tropical cliché. The richly saturated colors carry over to the handsome public spaces. Every room and suite has its own private terrace or patio, and 14 suites have private pools, including the Garden House, a freestanding villa with three bedrooms. But the resort's main pool, right on the Grand Cul-de-Sac beach, is plenty roomy for those who lack their own private one. Kid-friendly Guanahani has a complimentary Kids’ Club (daily 9am–5pm), lots of water toys to play with in the shallow Grand Cul-de-Sac lagoon, and a roving menagerie of lizards, cats, and red-footed tortoises. The Spa by Clarins ★★★, in its own separate suite of buildings at the resort, has a large swimming pool and some of the Caribbean's best spa services.
