It's amazing how even the lowliest joints on St. Barts have some kind of élan. But the no-frills Gustavia "snack bar" known asLe Select, opened by St. Barth native Marcus Stakelborough in 1949, is in no danger of going glitzy. This beloved burger palace and bar is both hippie saloon and family-friendly eatery, with plastic chairs strewn about a tree-shaded garden. Le Select may not officially have been the inspiration for Jimmy Buffet's “Cheeseburgers in Paradise," but it's been dining out on that legend for a good part of its existence. (And Sir Jimmy happily shows up to play for the bar's every major milestone—joined by Mr. Stakelborough, now in his 90s.) You can sip Ti punch or cold Carib beer and play dominoes under the shade trees.
