The most elegant modern newcomer is unquestionably Four Seasons Hotel St. Louis, 999 N. 2nd St. (tel. 314/881-5800; www.fourseasons.com/stlouis), located next to Laclede's Landing and the riverfront, with great views, a spa, outdoor pool, and Lumiere Place Casino.
