After a multimillion-dollar renovation, the Sonesta Maho Bay Resort has morphed into two resorts, and this, the new luxury property, is an adults-only all-inclusive that aspires to be the Dutch side's most upscale resort. It may well be, with butler service and custom-designed suites with marble baths, private terraces, and scads of cool stuff (Nespresso machines, 400-thread-count sheets, Molton Brown toiletries). Ocean Point bills its all-inclusive as "limitless," which means your rate comes with all meals and snacks, unlimited international and domestic booze and soft drinks in resort bars, and access to scheduled activities. What limits your "limitless" is your room category; those in higher categories get spirits and beer in their minibar (refreshed daily) as well as daily butler service and other fine-print pluses. All 129 rooms have private terraces or patios (looking out onto sparkling Maho Bay and the planes that land perilously close to the beach), and the ground-floor rooms have access to a swim-out plunge-pool stream. Still, if you're comparing this to other "five-star" properties in the Caribbean, Ocean Point falls short in regards to room size, quality of furnishings and food, and general upkeep. But it's a big step up from its sister hotel next door and a honeymoon favorite already—and the ocean views are priceless. So kudos for the effort, and look for regular online sales and upgrades to butler suites.
