One of the most striking landmarks in Taipei, the CKS Memorial dazzles with a marble exterior and cobalt-tiled roof. It's set amid beautiful gardens popular with morning tai chi enthusiasts. At the top of the steps is a huge statue of Chiang, where an hourly changing-of-the-guard ceremony takes place. Inside, a collection of artifacts provides a fascinating insight into the era's East-West power play and includes photographs of Chiang with Churchill and a string of U.S. presidents from Eisenhower to Reagan.
